I'd like to develop a new story about Dudley - Harry Potter's only cousin. In the first 6 books, he is described as a hateful and stupid young guy who often bullies Harry. But the last one 'the deathly hallow', there's something tricky. He shows his closeness to Harry and he trusts the order. He seems to care about Harry a little bit. But J.K. Rowling doesn't go further about him. From the memory of Snape, Dudley's mom, Lily's sister was wanting to go to Hogwarts when she was a teenager. But unfortunately, she was a muggle and was refused by the headmaster.
So what I want to do is Dudley has developed a sense of what the wizard world is and has gained some kind of power of magic. There's gene to be a wizard in his blood and it wakes so late that finally he's got magic power after he left Harry and the house where he and Harry have grown up. Now he and his parents are living in a strange place under new identities. There he can sense something happened in the wizard world and also shows his power in the muggle world. After Voldemort's be defeated, he rejoints with Harry and there's understandings between them eventually.

Hi Min Zhang
I think that is a really interesting angle to write your story from. I look forward to reading the work as it progresses.
Please tell us why Dudley and his parents are now living in a strange place with new identites, as I'm keen to know that!
Nice work Min Zhang.
Hi, Min Zhang!
What I am doing is writing about Mitsuhirato, the bad guy in ‘The Blue Lotus’ for my fanfiction. In this regard you have chosen the similar character for your fanfiction. The difficulty I am facing, I think probably you are facing as well, is to understand the bad guy’s philosophy and belief, and also understanding his rationale and purpose for his action. These things are unfortunately not always clear in the originals. I had done some research about the historical and geographical background of the original. I think it might be helpful to you.
Thank you both, renabrab and harim. I'm going to treat the bad guy with some merits. Do you remember the star wars that sometimes a bad role can revert to be a good one? Actually, Dudley is not an evil guy like Voldemort. The way his parents treat him and Harry Potter differently affects him. However, with him growing up, he finds his own good eventually.
I think there's the core different between Mistsuhirato and Dudley, though both of them seem to be a negative role.
I think, if I am going to write a fanfiction based on ‘the Blue Lotus’, certain things have to be prereserved. Characters’ personality/characteristics are some of them. To me these seem like the law and order of literary works and if these are not observed there will be chaos (confusion/loss of interest). Of course people can change, mature, or repent during the course of story but it should be reasonable and expectable. For instance, I do not want to see Harry Potter turns into a demon or Voldemort turns into a good guy. However, as you said, Dudley could find his own goodness as he is not evil and is still a child.
Hi Min Zhang.
I am sure your fan fiction will be very interesting to read when you finish it. I only read ' Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone' but I have watched every movie that has come out. So I did not know Dudley got, at last, some fondness towards Harry. I asked my duaghter about it and she also said that she felt very emotional to see Dudley's change in characteristic. Although Dudley is described as a muggle who is afraid of magic, I guess deep in his heart he always wanted to have a magic power as Harry does. So I am very looking forward to seeing your story.
Hi Min Zang, that’s a pretty interesting idea you have there, it certainly isn’t one I would have thought of. I’ve always been someone who’s hated Dudley’s guts right from the start. And I reckon his reputation has been smudged pretty badly by J.K over the years, being obnoxious and all. But shining a new and brighter light on this character might actually turn out to be quite fascinating. I can just imagine uncle Vernon’s face when he sees what Dudley’s being hiding in his closet.
Also I think you are right about Dudley being influenced by his parents in his treatment of Harry, but more by Uncle Vernon than Aunt Pertunia I would say. However, I’m a bit confused as to why Dudley would show his power in the muggle world, because from my reading of Harry Potter, the wizards had sworn the Statute of Secrecy in 1692 and were not allowed to display powers in front of muggles ever since. So it would be pretty interesting to see how you address this problem and incorporate it into your story.
Can’t wait to read it, good luck.
